Financial matters - tuition fees, scholarships etc.
In Austria, students have to pay a tuition fee. They also have to pay for the students' union.
Students from EU/EEA countries do not have to pay the tuition fee while studying within minium duration of their degree programme + two semesters of tolerance. If they need longer than this, they have to pay the tuition fee, except if they can ask for remission.
Nevertheless, the fee for the students' union (Österreichische HochschülerInnenschaft, ÖH) has to be paid.
When meeting the conditions, students can ask for scholarships. The University of Vienna itself is awarding scholarships, but also other institutions.
Within a certain age, students get reductions, i.e. cheaper tickets in museums.
It ist also important that students get cheaper tickets for the Wiener Linien (the public means of transport) and they can get insurance for less money. To be insured is obligatory in Austria.
